Bio
Monroe Payne – the short SHORT version. I’ve been behind a camera ever since my Dad let me use a brownie in 1957. I was 5 at the time. Dad was a photographer for Cornell University, and had a side business in the home developing Ektachrome, sometimes 32 rolls a night. If I ever wanted to see Dad, it was in the dark, in the darkroom. These were some of the happiest moments of my growing up. Leap forward about 53 years to Workshop 2010 and my introduction to Michael Barton. One of his many subjects was “The Art of the Self Assignment” which struck a chord with me and got me playing with photography. Another workshop with the Timmons’s, then Helen Yancy and Painter – well I got to enjoy the “art” side of photography. In doing so, I rediscovered the value of “play” in photography. My business today is primarily photographing families, creating head portraits and other commercial work. I also write press releases, letters and emails for commercial clients.
