Join Rick Friedman for an informative photographic talk of his over four decade career of covering heads of state, celebrities, academics and creating unique portraiture. His work has appeared on over 75 magazine and book covers and he has worked on 14 films. As photographers, we are challenged to create a beautiful and compelling image everyday for clients and ourselves. Rick will discuss his portable location lighting techniques that enable him to capture his award winning imagery. He will explain his process of manipulating natural light, or using artificial light with different light modifiers and ways of accenting photographs with colors and shadows. As a working magazine photojournalist, Rick’s approach is always practical, innovative and resourceful. He will share behind the scene stories of some of his most famous subjects and how he approaches each assignment and the inspirations behind the photograph.
Rick Friedman has been a photojournalist for over four decades. Based in Boston, he travels the world for numerous publications, workshops, corporations, advertising assignments and film and TV productions. His published work has appeared in Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Nature, USA Today, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, Stern, Discover and many other publications. He has produced over 75 book and magazine covers, worked on 14 movies and covered every US presidential campaign from Jimmy Carter to Donald Trump. Rick has been teaching his Location Lighting Workshops for the past 15 years across the US, UK and Canada. Rick writes the lighting blog Tuesday’s Tips. Rick has presented his Location Lighting Workshops on Creative Live and on Photo Brigade and a contributing writer for Photofocus. Rick is a Dynalite VIP, Nissin Flash Master and a PNY Ambassador.
